The Westmeath Minotaurs split up again today, with the Premier Division squad headed to Dodder Valley Park, while the Division 1 squad made the trip to Newbridge College.
The Premier squad went 2-0 in dominant fashion defeating the Laois Labs 41-18 and the Maynooth Hurricanes 35-13. This puts them at 7-1 on the season, clinching their playoff spot with one gameweek to go. They next face the South Dublin Panthers and Dunboyne Wildcats on October 3rd, again in Dodder Valley Park, to determine their final playoff seeding.
The Division 1 squad saw disappointment in Newbridge, falling 13-30 to the Dublin Rebels and 6-48 to UCD, putting them at 3-5 on the season. With the top 3 teams in Division 1 South/Central headed to the playoffs, this officially eliminates them from playoff contention. As the first season for the second team, however, there is lots to be proud of, with many new players making an impact. Next season should prove to be a promising one. There is still one gameweek left to play however, with the Division 1 squad headed to Cherry Orchard Park on October 3 to face the Panthers 2nds and Edenderry Eagles, aiming to finish the season on a high note.
