The Westmeath Minotaurs won their first ever Premier Division game by the score of 38 to 0, led by QB Joe Kinahan’s 4 touchdown day through the air. WRs Alan Campbell and rookie Cathal Dunne each caught a touchdown pass, while WR Shaun Dalton bagged 2 for a day to remember through the air. Dunne added a long rushing TD in the 4th quarter to seal the win, and K Jay Bruton added a field goal to round out the scoring for the Minotaurs.
The defense does not go without mention, pitching a shutout against the Cowboys offense, with an interception from ballhawk CB Peter Dempsey and numerous passes defensed for his partner CB Jordan Lacey. LBs Sean McCormack and Jay McBride shut down the Cowboys running game, as the Cowboys could not get anything going for them on offense.
Special Teams also came through clutch for the Minotaurs, as Dalton caught the kick return team of the Cowboys napping as he recovered a perfectly placed ball by Bruton, and Dunne added a forced fumble on the final kickoff of the game, recovered by Campbell.
The Minotaurs next take on the South Dublin Panthers in Tymon Park on April 16.
